I’m really surprised to read this, though it seems somewhat similar to what I’ve heard about Charlie’s soap, in that the people who love it love it, and a small group of people have had horrible experiences. I’m starting to wonder if it’s not only a sensitive skin issue but also a specific water issue. I say that because I’ve never been able to smell any of the fragrance in the diapers when I use the scented Rockin’ Green (soft rock), after they’ve been washed, and my son tends to break out rapidly and lastingly if he’s held by someone who uses any of a large group of main-stream detergents.
I guess I’m just glad that I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with Rockin’ Green.
I hope that your wee one heals well.

I am really sorry to hear about your experience! You received your samples the middle of October if I remember correctly, and shortly there after we reformulated the soft version to be gentler, so the version that is now currently for sale is different than from what you tested. The soft rock comes unscented automatically now as well, to further decrease the risk of any irritation.

We are also working on rolling out new 100% natural scents, that are not oil based in 2010 which should make our product even better.

I apologize for any problems that you had with the product, and we are always looking for ways to make our product better and work for all skin types.

I’ve only used the Rockin Green a couple of times but I have to say that so far it’s good. I also didn’t notice any smell at all left from the detergent. And I smelled them good. They just smelled normal, like nothing. Just wanted to add that. Thanks.

It is entirely possible that it was something about our water that was helping to hold onto the fragrance. Different water reacts so differently with each detergent. I am currently testing the unscented Rockin Green detergent and I will post an update in a couple of weeks after testing is complete.

Wow, that’s scary. Poor thing! Like the commenter above, I also began to wonder about your wash routine or water when I read that you could still smell the detergent after the wash. I have never smelled anything on the diapers coming out of the wash. We have had a very positive experience with Rockin’ Green, and our daughter has sensitive skin. I might have diluted the power of the fragrance a bit, though: I left my bag of detergent open on top of the washer because I didn’t like the smell even pre-wash and wanted it to fade, so I can barely smell it even when it goes in the wash. I also wonder if particular fragrances might be more problematic than others? There are a lot of different ones.

I know my wash routine is good…cold rinse with short soak, hot wash, two rinses. We’ve tried a lot of detergents and while not all have cleaned well, none of the others have caused a reaction like this. Fragrances can be tricky things. I am sure our water was hanging on to it, though.

Yeah, that’s my wash routine, too, though I’ve had to add another rinse recently as baby has started to make bigger messes (but we’re still not quite to diaper sprayer stage). Allen’s Naturally has also worked very well for us, and it has no fragrance–but it is pricier than Rockin Green. Have you tried it?

Yes! I love Allen’s. It has been our main detergent since Eva was one week old. The first week I used Tide free, since many people have good luck with that and I wanted to see if it would work with us. Horrible stink issues from the first wash. Allen called around that time and asked if I was interested in carrying it. Of course, I have to sample first, before I sell anything, so I asked for a sample. In one wash everything smelled better. Since a one ounce sample lasts four loads, I was very anxious waiting for my first wholesale shipment to arrive before the sample ran out!

I did not bother with a diaper sprayer until Eva was 8 months old or so. We started her on solids earlier than planned due to her allergies and nursing problems. So, she was on rice cereal by 4 months and eating a lot of solids by 6 months, but we did not need the sprayer until she was eating very regularly about 8 months.
