Thirsties Duo Wraps are a favorite diaper cover and our customers love them as much as we do. I am thrilled to announce that Thirsties prints are now available. These new prints are so cute. I am going to have to add one of each to our cloth diaper cover stash. Thirsties Duo Wraps are a great fit for my chunky thighed but small waisted little one. I love being able to adjust them up and down as needed. I often snap them down to fit better over a prefold and I unsnap for maximum capacity at night.

The print colors coordinate nicely with the solid colors, so you if you are one of those people (like me) who just likes things to go together, these are great!

You can buy these adorable covers in my store Little for Now cloth diapers.

The Econobum sounds like a good idea. A one size prefold and a one size cover, priced at a low enough point to encourage reluctant cloth diaperers to take the plunge. For the most part, this system will work fine and is easy enough to get started with. A package of a dozen diapers and a few covers costs just a little more than one month of disposables.

First, let me admit that I am not a fan of the “fold it in thirds and let the cover do the work” diapering systems. In my experience, this leads to leaking. The Econobum was no exception. My little one had a bout of the stomach flu while were testing this system. I am not going to get graphic, but believe me, a folded prefold does not contain as well as a fastened prefold. Cleaning up that mess was NOT fun. Nor was having to do an extra load of laundry to wash her pajamas. The only other diaper that leaked that badly during her 2 weeks of tummy troubles was – surprise! Disposables. Cloth diapers, in general, do a much better job of containing messes than disposable diapers. We had no leaks at all with a Snappi’d prefold and other covers.

The Econobum prefold is basically an Indian prefold with an even thickness all over instead of being thicker in the middle. There are stitch lines to indicate where to fold it for smaller or larger babies. Folded for the infant size it is a little wider than I like for little babies. Folded for the large size, it is far too narrow to give good coverage for an older baby like mine (and she is just 22 pounds). The absorbency is similar to a thin prefold, not as good as you would get from a premium prefold.

And then, there is the cover…. The Econobum diaper cover is thin, really thin. It feels thinner than the standard 1 MIL PUL used by most companies. I have only washed it a handful of times, so I can’t speak to how longlasting it will be. The binding on the edges rolls out on the tabs, so they show under clothes. The sizing of the cover is good and I do like the fit, but the thin elastic at the legs is likely one reason it leaked so badly for us.

Further, the math does not make as much sense to me as the advertising would indicate.

A package of 3 Econobum covers and 12 prefolds is $49.95.

Three Thirsties Duo Wraps and 12 premium infant prefolds costs about $56.75 in my cloth diaper store. Add a Snappi and you also have great protection against leaks. Yes, you would need to buy two sizes, but I feel that the better fit, greater absorbency and better resale value make them the better deal. If you really need to keep it cheap, there are several one size diaper covers available including one from Kissaluvs and one from Happy Heiny’s – both in our testing phases so watch for reviews on them soon.

If you want to try cloth diapering with a minimum investment or you really, really need to keep it cheap, the Econobum may work well for you. If you can afford to spend just a little more – or you want your cloth diapers to last through more than one child, you may want to look at a different system.

Booroi bamboo cloth diapers are soft, absorbent and easy to use. The ingeniously designed Booroi diaper cover contains leaks amazingly well and makes it easy to change diapers.

Booroi sent us a sample bamboo prefold, a cute red cover, some bamboo wipes and a wipes wet bag.

The Booroi cloth diaper cover is designed to hold the trifolded bamboo diaper. The cloth diaper cover is made from two layers of PUL. In the middle of the inner layer is a large opening to allow you to tuck in the diaper. The opening is edged with soft elastic binding. When the prefold is in place, just wrap the cover around the baby and snap in place. The soft inner elastic forms a gentle gusset or seal around baby’s legs, holding in wetness and messes. This is the first diaper cover I have seen that offers a double gusset similar to those found in gdiapers or Rumparooz pocket diapers.

When the prefold is wet, you can change it out for a clean diaper and reuse the cover unless it is wet or messy. This makes for a very cost-effective option since you can use just a few diaper covers each day. The prefolds are made from two layers of a substantial bamboo terry cloth with an extra layer in the middle. These diapers do quilt up a lot when washed, making them very thick. They are very absorbent, but also a little bulky.

I like this prefold trifolded, and I also used it stuffed into a pocket diaper, but they are too thick and not well-proportioned for use with pins or a Snappi. They are much shorter than a standard premium prefold and much wider, making it difficult to fold them properly for fastening.

The soft, bamboo terry Booroi wipes are thin enough to be easy to use, yet thick enough to do a great job. The gentle texture makes them great for cleaning messes. The binding on the edges of the wipes does shrink a bit when washed, so the wipes do not lay flat. I actually like the slightly rounded effect of these wipes since they conform nicely to your hand when used. However, for those who store wipes in a wipes warmer they will be a little less convenient to use.

The small wet bag the wipes come in is nicely sized to hold one or two wet diapers or several wipes. The snaps allow it to snap to another wet bag to keep them together in your diaper bag.

You can buy Booroi diapers, covers, wipes and wet bags at www.booroi.com.

Thirsties regular cloth diaper covers are a mainstay for many cloth diapering parents. I have sold these covers since they were first introduced a couple of years ago, and they are super popular with parents. They offer a great fit for most babies, and are an inexpensive but easy to use option many parents love with prefolds or fitted diapers.

Newborns usually fit perfectly in the XS size, the exceptions being really tiny babies under 6 pounds. for them, I suggest the Bummis Super Brite covers.

Thirsties large size covers are a good fit for most toddlers and preschoolers up to about 40 pounds, longer than most brands.

After selling hundreds of these covers, I have had only 2 returns, and both were for a problem that has been corrected in the newer version. The old style covers had only one layer of fabric in the tabs, so occasionally they would tear at the fasteners, newer covers have two layers in the tabs, so no tearing.

These cloth diaper covers are a favorite because they are thin and breathable but water resistant. The only leaks we have had were due to a very wet diaper and any cover will leak when there is no place for wetness to go. The inside is polyurethane laminate, making them easy to wipe clean and less likely to retain odors between washings. Although my daughter has very sensitive skin, we have never, ever had an issue with the PUL causing irritation where it touches her skin when a diaper shifts.

I keep all colors and sizes of these cloth diaper covers in stock at Little for Now.

My Thirsties Duo Wrap cloth diaper cover shipment just arrived today. The fit is great! My little girl is a really hard size to fit right now, since she is long and thin. Since she started crawling and cruising her legs are so thin it is hard to get a good fit with most diapers and covers. The regular style medium Thirsties covers are really big on her and the small size is just far too short. The new Duo Wrap size two on the smallest snap setting has the same rise as the medium size Thirsties, leaving lots of room for her to get taller. The smallest waist adjustment is about an inch smaller than the width of the medium Thirsties. This makes for a much better fit on my skinny girl, but they are still wide enough to fit over any of her fitted diapers, even for overnight.

For bigger babies, you’ll still want to use regular Thirsties covers overnight, but there is plenty of room here for daytime diapers even on big babies. For thin babies like mine, there should be plenty of room for day or night diapers while still offering a trimmer fit than the regular Thirsties covers. I’ll be stocking up on these for my little girl.

Colors are not the same as Thirsties regular colors, so be sure you know what you are getting. The color called rose is actually the same as candy pink, not the rose color I was expecting. The honeydew color is lighter and more yellow than celery. The ocean blue is a gorgeous medium aqua. Mango is just a touch darker than melon. Storm is a soft blue, darker than baby blue, very pretty. (If you are familiar with PUL colors, this is also called medium blue). Meadow is a lighter color than it looks online, more of a dark spring green. The orchid is a beautiful smoky lavender.

The new Duo Wrap 2 stage cover system offers a 3 step adjustable rise in each size – making it possible to diaper from tiny newborn to preschooler with just two sizes of diaper covers.

Why not a one size diaper cover? Thirsties explained that most families are actually buying three sizes when they buy a one size diaper cover system. Diaper covers that fit a 30 plus pound preschooler simply don’t fit well on a newborn, and most one size diaper covers only fit well from about 10 pounds to 32 pounds or so. That leaves mom and dad buying newborn covers and large covers to make up for the gaps at each end of the sizing range. With the Thirsties Duo wrap, parents can buy just two sizes – making them more affordable than ever.

Cloth diaper covers are not all made the same! Bummis Super Whisper Wrap is one of our favorites. They are soft, fit great and are easy to use. My only complaint is that they are not available in a very wide variety of patterns. A lot of my customers who like the fit and the great leg gussets still won’t buy them because they think dots are girly, even if they not in girly colors. I don’t share that opinion, but it is the one downside I see to these great covers.

These cloth diaper covers are very trim fitting and the soft fabric holds in moisture really well. They have leg gussets to help hold in leaks and they are easily adjustable with strong hook and loop tabs. Reasonably priced, they are a good deal for use over fitteds or prefolds.

The extra small size is perfect for newborns or premies, they fit from about 5-9 pounds. It is the one cloth diaper cover that really fit my daughter perfectly those first few weeks when she was all of about 6 pounds and change. Of course, she outgrew it quickly, so if you have bigger babies I would recommend starting with the small size, meant to fit from about 7 pounds to 15 pounds. Eva is still wearing the small size at 12 pounds and 25 inches tall, although she is almost too tall for them and we’ll be moving up to the next size soon.

Bummis Super Whisper Wraps come in white and 4 different “dots” patterns: green, yellow, blue and pink. I would put the white, green or yellow on a a boy with no problems. Some people object to the pink dots on the blue covers for a boy, but I think it is super cute and probably won’t care at all about using them if we have a boy.
